Water Removal for Metairie Homes

SERVPRO makes removing standing water first priority when beginning the water damage restoration process.

SERVPRO Works Quickly to Remove Water and Prevent Further Damage

Flooding in a Metairie home has some immediate effects. Paper items such as books, legal documents, and magazines quickly become compromised and have to be thrown out. In most cases, these are minor expenses compared to a loss of personal property like carpets and living room furniture.

SERVPRO concentrates its water removal efforts for Metairie homes to get the water out as quickly as possible and to reduce the damaging effects caused by the water before our teams removed it. First, our IICRC certified technicians prevent any more water from entering the home. In most cases, the water in the home is a plumbing issue; technicians turn off the water as close to the broken appliance or pipe as possible. If needed, we turn off the water line leading into the home.

As one team member turns off the water, others bring in commercial grade pumps to remove any standing water. Once technicians bring the water down to just above the surface of carpets, they switch to extraction wands. In addition to removing water from the surface, these devices also work very well at drawing water out of carpets.

After they removed the bulk of the water, technicians begin to dry property. They remove any soaked furniture and other property out of the home and place it on blocks or pallets. SERVPRO teams do this to allow airflow around and underneath each item, and so water can drain out of them, so varnish and fabric colors do not run and stain carpets and rugs.

Once team members move the items out of the way, our carpet specialists lift the carpets to dry them. If there is a pad underneath, they remove the carpet to dispose of the pad. Pads disintegrate quickly after absorbing large amounts of water, and it is cheaper to replace them than to attempt to dry them.

After removing the pad, specialist lay the carpet back down. They raise a section at opposite ends and place air movers at one end to blow warm, dry air under and over the carpet and place an exhaust fan at the other to draw damp air away from the carpet.

SERVPRO of Metairie knows that removing standing water is the first, best step to reducing damage to personal property. If you need our services for flooding or another issue, call us today at (504) 468-3046. We are here to help return your home to a dry, safe condition.
